#4 Good Water Bottle – Travelling in hot old Australia can be thirsty work, so make sure you have a metal water bottle that you can refill as you go, because tap water is drinkable… and free! #5 Good Sun Hat – And there's no denying you'll need a good sun hat for protection in Australia too. In my opinion, you can't go past this Hello Sunshine one, which is both gorgeous and ideal for keeping the rays off your face. #5 Showgrounds Almost every town in Australia has a showground – it's an Aussie cultural thing that at first I found a bit hard to get my head around. Essentially, I've come to realise that showgrounds are a bit like large village greens or town sporting pitches, somewhere the summer fayre might take place every year or other events and festivals are staged. As such, showgrounds in Australia are owned by the respective municipality and many towns kindly let those passing through stay on/in them for free. You'll have to have your own tent or van, but normally there are some bathrooms available and even a BBQ or 2 you might be able to use.

Hey folks, first time poster here! I'm heading off to Europe in 3 weeks for 2ish months of solo backpacking, and it's turned out I have 9 free days in Italy near the tail end of my trip that I'm not entirely sure what to do with. It's worth mentioning I've visited Italy once before, 7 years ago with my family. We hit up Rome, Venice and Florence, although I was only 15 at the time and coming off a recent hospital admission, so I was fairly unwell and didn't see as many of the sights as I might have hoped to. I'll be in Rome for 5 nights/6 days, with accommodation booked until the 25/1 (checking out the morning of), having come in by night train from Vienna. I'm due to fly out of Rome to London on 3/2, so I'm looking for suggestions on where to fill in the gap in my itinerary! I'm a pretty quiet person and tend to keep to myself when I travel, so nightlife and social activities aren't much of a consideration. I'm a massive history buff and thus really enjoy historical sites and museums (art galleries to a lesser extent), especially those focussed on artefacts or exhibits showcasing 'the life of the times' or what have you.
